The South Jersey Quilts Of Valor organization presented the Cape May / Lewes Ferry with a quilted wall hanging in appreciation
 of their continued support of veterans and the QOV Foundation.

QOV Ceremony at Cape May / Lewes Ferry Terminal:
James Watson, retired Coast Guard veteran and Cape May resident was “Wrapped” by QOV member
 and maker of the quilt, Sharon Cadwell.
Watson shared some of his experiences in his career with Coast Guard postings throughout the world.
QOV member Kathy Tweed, pictured at right, talked about the Quilt Of Valor organization.

Two veterans received their Quilts Of Valor at the Ferry Terminal QOV workshop on Friday afternoon, Sept 8, 2017.
Pictured left is Ralph Cooper, an Army veteran who served in Korea and Alex May who served in the Air Force in Vietnam.
Cooper is the husband of South Jersey Quilts Of Valor member, Ginny Cooper - who made and quilted the quilt. May is the husband of
South Jersey Quilts Of Valor member, Alice May. Merry May, Alex's sister helped make and quilt his quilt.

Cape May Lewes Ferry part-time employees and military veterans received their Quilts of Valor quilts at a wrapping ceremony
Friday, June 2, 2017. Jim DeStefanos, left, is a WW II veteran and Robert Norris is a Vietnam veteran.
The quilts were presented as a surprise to the two CML Ferry employees by the  Quilts Of Valor South Jersey Chapter.

Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day was proudly supported by various Quilts of Valor Foundation volunteers.
Held in Washington DC at the World War II Memorial.

Starting the Jelly Roll Race with red/white/blue fabric strips are, left, Sharon Cadwell and Ann Carroll, right.
To make the quilt top approximately 40 - 2 1/2" wide strips are sewn together end to end - making one long strip about 1600" long.
Then the long strips are sewn together to make a quilt top! A fun process!  Sharon Cadwell completed her top in the workshop -
the first quilt top she has ever made.   Congratulations to Sharon!!

The tops will have borders added, then they will be quilted and  eventually be awarded to South Jersey area veterans.



  

The top at left was completed by Ginny Cooper and at right, Dottie Saslav completed her Jelly Roll Race top and added borders.

At the December QOV workshop several members worked on their nametags. Jane Pszczolkowski
created the design using red/white/blue selvage scraps surrounding an embroidered name plate. 




The newest 'Opportunity Quilt' made by Quilt Of Valor member Crystal Smith. Tickets to win
the quilt will be on sale starting in January 2017. Proceeds will help South Jersey Quilts Of
Valor buy more fabric for veteran's quilts.

Stanley Hagerty, a Cape Woods, Lower Township resident and US Navy veteran was presented his quilt
in a ceremony at the Quilts of Valor Workshop on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016. His wife was with him for the presentation.
The quilt was presented by South Jersey QOV Chapter Chair Liz Barrett.

Gordon Lorenzo, Upper Twp. Petersburg resident and an Army veteran from the Vietnam era,
 was presented his quilt in a ceremony at the Quilts of Valor Workshop on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016.
The quilt was presented by South Jersey QOV member Kathy Tweed.

A QOV presentation was made at the Workshop to World War II Army veteran Richard Lee Barab. Richard is a Cape May resident

and was an Army Engineer in a Combat Battalion.

Quilts of Valor (QOV) was invited to have a display at the Linwood Garden Tour in July 2016. QOV volunteers handed out information

 and received donations for signature blocks to be sewn into QOV quilts.

Quilts of Valor (QOV) Workshop, held June 3, 2016 at the Cape May - Lewes Ferry Terminal. South Jersey Quilts of Valor members and friends
worked on quilts to be presented to area veterans and also answered questions for visitors at the Ferry Terminal.


A QOV presentation was made at the Workshop to World War II Army veteran Augustus Epple, pictured above wrapped in his quilt and below, with his wife and friends.

Epple was in the Battle of the Bulge and had just turned 18, on the boat, prior to going into battle.  (Click these photos for full-size version.)

Eight Vietnam Veterans were presented with Quilts of Valor on June 1, 2016 at Shawnee High School. This group of veterans has been speaking to the students at the high school for the past 12 years. The Yellow Ribbon Club from the school surprised the vets with a ceremony on the football field which included the high school band and  the Warriors Watch Riders motorcycle organization. ( www.warriorswatch.org )  The Yellow Ribbon Club presented the vets with tee shirts that stated 'Renegade (school mascot) Veterans'. South Jersey Quilts of Valor members presented a quilt to each of the veterans. The ceremony ended with the students who were sitting in the stands coming onto the football field to shake hands with each of the Vietnam veterans and thanking them for their service and welcoming them home. The South Jersey Quilts of Valor members who helped with the presentations were: Ruth Ann Bosworth, Liz Barrett, Deni Regensburg and Kathy Tweed.

Quilts of Valor - South Shore Stitchers Quilt Guild
Kathy Tweed and Anne Lovell presented a QOV quilt to HM2 Bruce Dinardo
 at his home  on Tyler Rd. in Upper Twp. on Mar. 25, 2016.
He served in the Navy during Vietnam.
 Also present were Dinardo's two daughters, two grandsons
 and grand-daughter.

Nominate A Veteran:
To nominate a veteran for a quilt you need to go to the following website and follow the steps below ...
1. Go to the website: www.qovf.org
2. Under the third red tab towards the top of the page, click on the tab Take Action, select the 4th line down, Request a Quilt.
3. As you scroll down that page you will need to select under the drop down menu who is this quilt for. Your choices are you or someone else or if it is for a group presentation. 
4. Next check if the veteran has received a Quilt of Valor previously.
5. As the person nominating a veteran you will need to provide your name, phone number and email address if you have one. The state coordinator for Quilts of Valor will be in contact with you to help set up the awarding of the quilt for the veteran or to get more information if needed.
6. For the person you are nominating you will need their name, address, branch of service, and their deployment. 
7. There is also an area for any comments or special instructions you would like to share.
8. Hit submit.

Within a week or so you should hear from the state coordinator. In the case of New Jersey, it is Nancy Thomson. She will request one of the groups in the recipients  area to provide a quilt and will contact you with any information about the quilt and the group providing the quilt. Please be patient since all of the quilts are
handmade and make take a while to be completed.
